Let’s Go Orange!

Posted by Scott Thomas Photography on March 20, 2009

The Syracuse Orange Men’s Basketball team has been on a roll lately. They thrilled all their fans by outlasting the Connecticut Huskies in six overtimes during last week’s Big East Tournament and was awarded a number three seed in this week’s NCAA National Championship Tournament. I see many of you are searching for information and photos of the Syracuse Orange basketball team and it’s players.

With that in mind and after receiving a comment and some encouragement by a fellow Orange fan, I have created a special print to commemorate the first ever (as far as I know) Orange Out! at the Carrier Dome from last February in a Big East game against the Georgetown Hoyas. Own a piece of Syracuse Orange Basketball history! GO ORANGE!

Orange Out!

Posted by Scott Thomas Photography on February 18, 2009

The word spread quickly around Syracuse that an Orange Out was being called for when Georgetown’s Mens basketball team would come to town on Saturday, February 14. Websites and blogs proclaimed it. Even going so far as to propose a ban on anyone NOT wearing orange entering the Carrier Dome for the game. A nice thought but, as it turned out, there were a lot of fans who wore blue, white or no SU colors at all. Sigh, why can’t Syracuse go all out when asked? Really, we need some more spirit around here!

The Syracuse University Bookstore was selling special shirts for the game for only $10. A bargain for anything SU sells. I guess the University can get behind something if they can make some money on it.

The SU students knew what an Orange Out was all about. Their section was almost completely bright orange. As a fellow Alum, you made me proud!

As promised, some of the Georgetown fans made it up for the game. They stuck out like a sore thumb with their drab grey and blue colors. The policemen ensuring their safety get a bye on the Orange Out as they were working. :)

While the Orange fans had a scare watching their team’s 16 point lead dwindle to a tie at the end of regulation. SU won it in overtime, 98-94. Go Orange!

One of my first weekly views from 2008 featured Paul Harris of the Syracuse University Orange Men’s basketball team. Since then, he has become the most searched person on my blog. He still lags behind those people looking for the answer of why birds stand on one leg. :) To help those people looking for more Paul Harris photos, I made it a point to take a few pictures of him today before the Big East game between Syracuse and Georgetown which SU won 98-94 in overtime. Enjoy!

You know when SU’s nationally ranked Men’s basketball team is playing well when Jonny Flynn is going down the court after an SU basket with a huge smile on his face celebrating with his teammates. One of the best point guards in college and the Big East conference, Jonny Flynn makes the Orange go. Scoring and distributing the basketball with confidence, grace and a love of the game not always seen these days in big time college sports. It is as much fun to watch him play as he has playing it.

Attending the SU-Notre Dame game gave me another opportunity to use the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 AF-S VR Zoom Lens and it did not disappoint. Under bright television lights, I was able to use shutter speeds from 1/320 to 1/640 at f/2.8 and ISO ratings from 400 to 800. Last year I barely could muster 1/125 at f/5.6 using an ISO of 1600 when I blogged about Jonny Flynn’s teammate, Paul Harris under the same lighting conditions at the same 200mm focal length.

The above photo is a crop from the original vertical composition which I have included here for comparison.

View 10: Let’s Make Noise!!!

Posted by Scott Thomas Photography on March 3, 2008

Screamers

Took in another Syracuse University Orange Women’s Basketball game last week. It was another exciting game with SU winning on a three-pointer by Erica Morrow with eighteen seconds left to play.

At one point, SU was losing by twelve points with eleven minutes to play. The coach took a time out and challenged his players to dig down and win. With the help of the crowd, including the four girls who sat behind me (pictured above), SU came back for the victory. My ears rang all the next day from their screaming when the scoreboard operator asked for noise!

I think Paul Harris might consider modeling after his basketball career is over.
