My goal was to capture a sunrise and sunset over the weekend. Turns out the location I selected for the sunrise really didn’t have a good view so I settled for something taken before sunrise. With the sunset, I did much better heading to a beach on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario.

Both of these photographs were taken with the fabulous Nikon 18-200 VR Zoom lens. I have rarely taken this lens off my camera since I purchased it about a year ago. The range is perfect for travel photography, walking about your home town and keeps your camera bag small and lite. I highly recommend it!
For you Canon owners, Sigma sells an 18-200 OS Zoom Lens which has gotten good user reviews.

Was at the New York State Fairgrounds over the weekend for a horse show and got wind of an auction being held in the Swine and Goat Building. Walking towards the building, I could hear the distinctive cadence of an auctioneer rattling off escalating bids. How they talk so fast, keep track of who’s bidding and how much makes my head hurt. I just marvel at this skill. The subjects being auctioned where South African Boer Goats. Cute and cuddly but, to the people bidding, they were breeding and show animals. I was surprised as bidding frequently went over $500 with some goats going as high as $1,000. It was a fun event to hear, watch and photograph.

The Central New York Regional Market celebrated 70 years of service to the community, farmers and vendors who shop and sell there over this past weekend. The Market is a unique blend of produce, flowers, baked goods, wines, meats, food, novelty gifts and crafts. Shoppers deal directly with the people who grow and make everything that is sold there. In these economic times, heading out to the Market can save you money and bring back simpler times as you smell, touch and taste all that is offered there.

The first horse show of the season has ended. A weekend of long days preparing and competing in classes with other riders showing their Arabian steeds. My daughter, riding Klyde, handled herself elegantly as other riders whirled about the show ring with her. For his part, Klyde kept an alert and keen eye to his task.
After the class was over, Klyde was thanked by his rider and given a treat of yummy applesauce for a job well done.

In the last decade, Canadian Geese have gone from a symbol of nature to a nuisance species as they have learned to take advantage of Man’s suburban lifestyle. A recent trip to the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge shows how these beautiful and magnificent creatures live in the natural environment of a large marsh.
